My city was heavily affected by the microcephaly phenomena that happened here in Brazil, I live in Campina Grande. First of all, there are a lot of politics over this subject and that's why much of the information about this issue is being covered from the public eye. There is also the issue about the influence of the biochemical industry over the World Health Organization. I give you some facts here that you can check and take your own conclusion.

1. Microcephaly is NOT caused by the Zika virus

This is the most obvious disinformation that is being spread about the microcephaly phenomena, africans have lived with Zika virus for a very long time and this phenomena didn't happened there. As I'm writing now there are 1,709 cases confirmed in Brazil, if Zika was the cause of microcephaly we would see this happening in Africa.

There is no relation between the Zika virus and pregnant woman with babes with microcephaly. The microcephaly outburst only happened in a very specific region in Brazil, the northeast region. That's why so many pregnant woman in Colombia had Zika and not a single case of microcephaly.

3. Preparation for the World Cup 2004 and the Dengue fever problem

In 2014 the Brazilian government had a big problem about the 2014 World Cup with cities having a epidemic of Dengue fever.

The Brazilian government was desperate looking for a solution and was trying everything, even a genetic modified mosquito was used trying to combat the Dengue fever epidemic.

4. Pyriproxyfen

Pyriproxyfen is a pesticide used to combat mosquitoes, it was heavily used in Brazilian cities in preparation for the world Cup 2014. The Brazilian Association for Collective Health demanded it's suspension but the Brazilian government was more concerned about the World Cup.

Pyriproxyfen is Juvenile hormone that prevents insects developing into adulthood and it was used in drinking water, mostly in poor urban areas. Pyriproxyfen use is permitted by the World Heath Organization

5. World Heath Organization and the Agrochemical Industry

This image shows the head of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan with the Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff in a very strange campaign telling people that Zika virus was the real cause of the Microcephaly outburst when even the most superficial analysis can see this is just illogical.

" A team of WHO scientists recently reviewed data on the toxicology of pyriproxyfen, one of 12 larvicides that WHO recommends to reduce mosquito populations. It found no evidence that the larvicide affects the course of pregnancy or the development of a fetus. The US Environmental Protection Agency and EU investigators reached a similar conclusion when they carried out a separate review of the product"

One possibility that has been raised is the pesticide pyriproxyfen, which is applied to drinking water in some parts of Brazil to kill the larvae of the mosquitos that transmit Zika. Pyriproxyfen is an analogue for insect juvenile hormone which is cross reactive with retinoic acid, which is known to cause microcephaly. A physicians group in Brazil and Argentina, the Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center, and NECSI have called for further studies of the potential link between pyriproxyfen and microcephaly"
