Whether you are sensitive or truly allergic to gluten I always talk to my patients about avoiding the trap of substituting.
As people remove gluten products from their diet there is often the move to trying to find substitutes like gluten free bread, pasta, crackers, cereals, etc. There are whole isles and even stores full of gluten free substitutes.
I feel this is a big mistake.
These substitutions are just more sugar in your body.
A healthier diet is a trend away from too many carbohydrates. Including gluten free substitutes.
If you really want to feel better, instead of buying gluten free substitutes, increase whole real foods in your diet: vegetables, healthy protein and healthy fat.
It's quite simple.
