Going Vegan Day 4: The Waka Waka

in health •  7 years ago

I'll dig right into it: Yes, I decided to go vegan last Thursday (17th August 2017).

It's been 4 days since my journey began and I think it's time to recap some initial thoughts, struggles, realizations, and to put my McFlurry with KitKat craving out there. The world needs to know.

BUT WHY, WHY???

I ask myself this question a lot, especially since I told my friends and family and - at least most of them - want to know why.

Because I am concerned for my health?
Because I saw one too many meat/dairy industry Youtube video?
Because eating vegan is sometimes simpler than preparing meat?
Because I want to finally lose those last 10 kilograms that I hang on to?
Because I like to make my life more complicated?

I frankly don't know which one of the above is the one. Probably a conglomerate of all the reasons above, mixed with the will to experiment and with recent health issues I've been experiencing - again.

The thing is, ever since I moved away from home, I've been eating a semi-meat-vegetarian-cheeselover-chocolateconsumer-wannabehealthy-stillwestern diet. Yes yes, I know, a bad description. Let me put it this way: I managed to lose 20 kilograms by lifestyle change and doing moderate exercise alone. So you can imagine that I wasn't just eating shit.

I also managed to get rid of some health complications by eating proper food alone. I had hormonal problems, resulting in painful periods, bloating, and excess buildup in my breast tissue. It was painful and potentially dangerous for my long term health. Having breast-cancer in my family definitely didn't help me to sleep soundly.

That was 2 years ago and I switched to a vegetarian diet then. My ultrasounds and blood examinations after just 2 months were clear of any hormonal issues.

Happily healthy I started eating normal again. Yes, chocolate chip cookies, I'm looking at you.

Last Friday, I was at my G's office. My breasts were painful again, and even though the pain was similar to what I experienced 2 years ago, I still wanted to make sure that I had 'only' developed excess buildup in my breasts.

My predictions came true, and the doctor said he can't help me in any way.

But I thought to myself: 'Well, I can help myself.

So here's my biggest because: I want to become and stay healthy.

Is this the right way to go? I don't know. We'll see :))

SO, HOW YOU DOIN'?

Even though it's been only 4 days, I've seen some crazy changes and encountered some waka waka* reactions from family and friends.

There's already a lot of material for another post, so I'll see you soon. I have to shift my vegan-research focus to work now ...

Lots of flowers x

*Pardon my free waka waka usage. In my country, we use it to describe the crazy, extraordinary, unusual.

P.S.:
I really do crave the McFlurry with KitKats. Driving through a McD Drive TWO!!! times this weekend definitely didn't help. HELP!

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

Good luck! May the waka waka be with you. :-)

Thank you! I'll keep everything updated ;)
