It’s Healthier to Be Unemployed than to Have a Stressful Job, New Research Suggests

in health •  7 years ago  (edited)

Researchers from Manchester University analyzed 1,116 people aged between 35 and 75 years who were unemployed between 2009 and 2010. These subjects were followed from 2010 to 2012. The overall results of the study showed that having a poor-quality job can be detrimental to health.

Here are the main points of this study:

  • Having a poor-quality job after being unemployed causes stress-related issues.
  • The adverse effects include having significantly worse blood glucose and cholesterol levels.
  • Stressful job also affects fat storage, increases blood clot formation risk and causes inflammation.
  • Also, stressful job has been linked to heart disease, joint damage and cancer.
  • Mental health was unaffected by gaining employment after being out of work.

This is too true and very common nowadays sadly. A lot of the stress comes home with you and is always niggling at you, then you only go back the next day making it very much soul destroying! I was stuck in a job where i was too afraid of losing the high wage to leave and look else where, but when i finally did, i landed myself in a better job earning almost exactly the same and with much more potential in the future! I dont think i would ever put myself in the same predicament ever again.
