Health and weight lifting Gurus these days on Youtube and Instagram suggest that getting strong is a concoction of supplements, exotic repetition schemes and buying their specific brand of protein powder. I am here to tell you that this is not the case. The fact of the matter is that people have been getting huge and ripped for centuries and nothing ground breaking has happened in the natural fitness industry since the 1970s. Here are a few things to know in regards to getting gainz. THIS IS FOR NATURAL ATHLETES ONLY. All you steroid people, do your thing.
LIFT
In order to get stronger muscles you need to lift more and more weight with the over time. This is called “progressive overload”. Many natural old school body builders suggest that 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps is ideal and allows for a good mix between strength and hypertrophy (making bigger muscles). When you work out you should be recording how much you lift. And every week you should be trying to lift more than before. Start with the main lifts (Bench, squats, dead lifts, military press, pull ups, rows) then do other stuff…whatever you want. Trust me, you will get gains.
EAT
You have to consume more calories than you burn in order to put on muscle. This mean that you must eat an appropriate amount of protein and other stuff. Literally, you just need to eat more stuff. That will give your body enough energy and building materials to grow additional muscle mass. Your sources of protein can definitely come from protein powder. They can come from protein bars. They can come from beans (if you eat a bunch), they can come from steak. IT. DOES. NOT. MATTER. If it has protein in it your body will use it to repair damage muscle. PERIOD.
SLEEP
During lifting you damage your muscles. When you eat you are supplying your body the materials to repair itself and make improvements. When you sleep your body then makes those repairs. If you don’t sleep then your body will never add muscle…or at least at a much slower rate. Stop watching MTV and go to sleep for those gains….
It really isn’t complicated. Working out for your Grandpa is the same for you today. Don’t be fooled that you have to buy a bunch of stuff. Just Lift, Eat, Sleep and the gainz will come.
