Recently I decided to purchase an Oura Ring. After hearing some great things from some reputable people, I thought it would be a self-beneficial purchase. The Oura Ring is an accurate sleep and activity tracker that is worn on your finger. It tracks your sleep stages, heart rate and even your body temperature. Keeping a log of your body temperature can help detect many problems, including COVID-19. I definitely do not exercise (or sleep) as much as I should, so I got the ring hoping it would provide me with a little push. Here's some Sleep data I gathered after my first full day and night of using the ring.
As you can see in the image above, I logged 8 hours and 16 minutes of sleep, but I was in bed for 10 hours and 36 minutes. I had a 78% sleep efficiency and my resting heart rate averaged 50 beats per minute.
The chart below shows some more info on my sleep. I had 2 hours 13 minutes (27%) of REM Sleep and 1 hour 28 minutes (18%) deep sleep. The latency says that it took me only 2 minutes to initially fall asleep after my head hit the pillow. This is a bit too quick and indicates I was in need of sleep.
Below is a visual that shows my sleep stages throughout the course of the night. I went to sleep at 1:33AM and I woke up for the day at 12:09 PM. I was awake for 2 hours and 20 minutes between this time, most of which came in the morning around 9:30 AM. 55% of my sleep was considered light. I definitely want to work on lowering that.
Below is a look at my resting heart rate during the course of the night. The gap around 9:30 AM is because I woke up for about a half hour to have a drink of water. It's clear that my heart rate spiked and settled back down as I went back to bed.
Overall I got 8+ hours of sleep, but I did not go about the greatest way of obtaining that. Let's see if the ring can inspire me to change my habits.
