What is tuberculosis?
Tuberculosis is a bacterial infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs. Tuberculosis is not a hereditary disease. Tuberculosis can occur in other parts of the body besides the lungs.
Causes of tuberculosis
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a life-threatening disease called tuberculosis.
How tuberculosis spreads
1.Tuberculosis is usually spread through the air.
2.The germs of the disease are released into the air through the patient's sneezing and coughing, and they enter the body of a healthy person through respiration.

- BCG vaccination of the baby after birth
- Use a handkerchief or tissue paper when coughing or sneezing the patient's
- Put sputum in a specific container and buried it in soil
- Adherence to personal hygiene rules
Treatment of tuberculosis
Tuberculosis is usually treated through the DOTS method.
What does DOTS mean?
D-directly- Medication in the presence of someone
O-observed- Observing whether the medicine is being taken properly
T-treatment- Get regular treatment
S-short course- treatment of tuberculosis for six to eight months
DOTS is a direct, monitored and short-term treatment of tuberculosis. In this method the patient will take the medicine for a full period of time through the observation of the doctor / paramedic / counselor / health worker / village doctor and volunteers.

Things to do during the DOTS procedure
- Determining the place and time of taking the medicine by talking to the patient
- Encourage the patient to take regular medication
- Ensuring proper dosing
- Record it every time in the medical prescription after the patient has taken the medicine
- Tuberculosis patient kept with identity card
- Inform the patient about possible side effects of the drug
- Contact the nearest health center if side effects occur
- Finding tuberculosis patients taking irregular medications through health workers or volunteers
- Inform the health center if the patient is not found
- Examination of sputum during 2nd, 5th month and at the end of treatment
