Intermitten fasting... HOW IT CHANGED MY LIFE!

in health •  7 years ago  (edited)

I know that fasting sounds ridiculous, I thought the exact same thing when I first hear of it. Why would I ever want to starve myself on purpose? That just sounds dumb! Right? Not only did I not believe in fasting, I actually believed in the opposite, that eating a lot of small meals through out the day was way easier on my stomach and better for keeping weight off. Since I suffer from bad stomach issues (thanks to 2 combat tours) and gaining weight is always an issue, I thought it made sense to eat like that. I thought it was the best option so I stuck with it, for 5 years. It worked ok, but it didn't work great. Sure, it was a plus I wasn't puking every morning, but I still had a stomach ache every single day. I put on nearly 25lbs, which is crazy because I was in my early 30s and should've been in the best shape of my life. I wasn't, I was feeling sick to my stomach all the time, it didn't make sense. So when I heard about intermitten fasting and how it could possibly help with my stomache issues AND the weight I put on, I was intrigued to say the least. Honestly I was willing to give anything natural a shot at that point, and just changing my eating habits seemed easy enough to me. So I decided to try it.

INTERMITTEN FASTING is when you go 16 hours without food, then you can eat for a 8 hour window. ie: if your last meal was at 6pm you wouldn't eat until 10am. What that does is gives your body a chance to go into survival mode (12 hours without food) where it actually burns fat from the body, not the sugars and food that you've eaten that day. It will help burn off that extra weight much faster. It also kills off the weak cells in your body and then produces human growth hormone (HGH) to replace the old cells that were killed off, crazy right!?! Oh and HGH helps you heal faster, look younger, and a bunch of other cool stuff!

HOW OFTEN.. I know that was my first question. Thats the best part, do it as often or little as you want! Obviously the more often you do it the faster you loose those extra lbs and the better you feel. And if you want to really burn fat then take a walk or work out in that last 4 hours of the fast when your in that fat burning phaze.

IS IT HARD? It is probably something most people will have to work up to. I have always had a lot of self control and it was a challenge for me, to go against everything I've been told your whole life is a mental challenge for sure. So I started off just by going as long as I could every morning without eating. I wasn't statving myself by any means, but instead of eating a meal at a certain time of day I would ask myself if I was ACTUALLY hungry or if it was just time to eat. Most of the time my body was saying it is time to eat, not that it was actually hungry... BIG DIFFERENCE. So I started listening more and as time went on it got easier and easier to go the 16 hours without food. Now I choose to do it most days because of my stomach issues, but you don't have to its all personal preference. Even 1 day a week helps so do it whenever possible.

WAS IT WORTH IT? Absolutely, I feel amazing! I wish people would believe me when I tell them how FANTASTIC it makes me feel. I would have paid serious money for a pill that would make me feel this exact same way. I personally think it's the secret to feeling younger! With just changing the times when I ate I lost all my extra weight (down to 6% body fat), I have way more energy, I sleep better, my stomach issues are way better, I FEEL BETTER IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY and it was all for free! Can't get any better than that! It has made my life enjoyable again!!

Peace, love and all that hippie shit!!

I fast all the time, mostly because I spent my grocery money on beer.

Lol, that'll happen! Well its weed for me, but its all the same right 😉

Weed leads to needing more groceries. Beer fills you up with empty calories.

Really? Boom! Been doing it for 6 years, there's no other way to live 🙌🏼

The best part is that I eat what ever I want and I save a lot of time on preparing food and dishwashing.

Agreed! I will do this forever!

Thanks @oldtimer. Always nice to hear other people agree.

Fasting is wonderful to detox the body.

Yes it is! There are lots of benefits I didn't get into because it was so short. But since this was such a popular post I will have to do a more educated one in the future and I'll make sure to add that fact! Thanks. Take care 😊

I am currently starting my IF regime! Excited to see the results in a few months. Will be blogging about them for sure! Glad to hear you are feeling better, makes me happy.

Thats awesome! Stick with it and you will definitely see and feel the results! Good luck 😉

Very informative.

Absolutely right in my experience.

I've been doing intermittent fasting for about 6 years, changed my overall life. I recommmend people to live this kinda lifestyle 💪🏼🙌🏼💯

Thats awesome! Glad to hear it was so positive for you that you've done it so long. Hopefully I'll still be doing it in 6 years. Definitely a better lifestyle!

Nice post. Upvoted and resteemed.
I'd like to call on your experience as I'm considering trying IF as well, also due to stomach issues, and have a few questions. If you don't mind.

You're talking about stomach pain, do you know what the cause was?
What time window have you chosen to eat? Have you played around with it?
Has your eating habit changed? (food wise - more protein, more bad food like chips etc...)
You're down to 6% body fat, which sounds very little. Do you fear it'll go down further and would be harmful?

Thanks mate, and good luck!

Thanks for the upvote and resteem! I would love to help u out if i can. My stomach pain started after my 2nd tour to iraq, i got deathly ill there and my stomach has never been the same. No doctors can figure out exactly what it is so after years and years of trying different stomach medications without any luck at all I decided I had to figure something else out. I was puking nearly every morning, lots of stomach vile, now its just a bit annoying at best some days.
The time that works best for me to fast is from after dinner (usually 6ish) to a late breakfast (between 10am and noon), i found eating late at night and/or snacking would upset my belly in the morning. I havent played with the times to much because that time frame seemed easiest for my schedual. But it did take me a few months to actually get on this schedual completely, I just stuck with it until it was easy.
I have changed my eating habits, if you have stomach issues i suggest you do to. I eat All organic. It is a hard switch because nothing is convienent anymore, but I think convienence is what is killing this countrys health. No more fast food, no more processed food, that stuff is barely food at all anyhow. Organic stores still have chips and fun snacks, just not as many. But I still eat burgers (all organic grass fed) and I even had pizza last night! From scratch all organic, it just takes way more time then throwing a frozen one in the oven! Lol
This is definitely the skinniest ive ever been and I wasn't trying for this, it just happened with this lifestyle. 6% body fat is what professional athletes aim for so I dont think it's to low, but no I'm not trying to go lower. Loosing weight isnt why I do this at all (its a great side effect), I do it for my health! And I feel better than I ever have before in my life, and i KNOW intermitten fasting played a huge role in that!
Good luck on ur journey and feel free to hit me up with more questions or comments! I followed you, follow me if you want to. Take care.

Thanks man for the further insight. I have a 3 week trip coming up, but will do some mental prep for this for the time we're back. I've gone gluten free, sugar free and other things to figure out what's with my stomach, no luck so far. So I'll see if this fasting helps me as well... Thanks again.
I always see if people are interactive. With you replying, I am following you now :)

Glad to help anytime i can. Thanks for following! 😊
