Psoriasis: an introduction
Psoriasis can be simply defined as an autoimmune disorder where our skin cells grow rapidly compared to the normal ones.
It is one of the most irritating situations where the skin cells tend to grow nearly ten times faster than the normal cells.
when the underlying skin cells reach the surface of the skin, they tend to die and hence the building up of the dead cells on the surface of the skin causes scaling on skins surface resulting in white and scaly patches.
This build-up of dead skin cells over the surface of the skin over a prolonged period of time results in psoriasis.
The Psoriasis on feet looks very similar to plaque psoriasis which happens on other locations of the body.
Psoriasis on feet is also termed as Palmoplantar psoriasis.

The Doctor might prescribe any of the following drugs individually or in combination according to the severity of the disease :
Methotrexate is generally prescribed where the conditions are highly severe and deteriorating. It works effectively but has got many side effects as it suppresses the cells of the immune system which causes psoriasis. It is generally prescribed for a brief period of nearly 6-8 months.
Cyclosporine is a known immunosuppressant and it is used practically in those cases where other treatment options fail. It works by suppressing your immune system and slow down your skin cell growth. It can cause some serious side effects hence should be taken under the guidance of expert dermatologists. It can affect your kidney functions and can increase blood pressure as well.
Retinoids like Acitretin is the only retinoid to be used for treating Psoriasis on feet by FDA orally. It works by reducing the fast multiplication of cells and their growth.
psoralen UVA phototherapy(PUVA) is often prescribed by doctors where the drug psoralen should be administered orally with UV light therapy.
Other treatment options include the use of biologics where a specific part of the immune system is targeted. for example, Etanercept, infliximab etc.
