My 1st "Monthly Fast" Post - #1 No Smoking, No Sleeping Past 8am

in health •  7 years ago

Over the past year + I've made it a routine to go on a monthly fast. Now before you think I'm just making a post about starving myself do understand that historically, the true concept of fasting revolves around knowing that you not only digest what you eat, but also what you see, hear, and smell. But that is a topic you might want to look more into on your own.

Simply put, fasting is using your will to fight the temptations of the senses or sensory organs. Some examples of fasts that I challenge myself to and rotate on a regular are :

  • no liquor
  • no fluids other than water
  • no sleeping late
  • no meat ( before I stopped partaking in the flesh )
  • no eating out for dinner
  • no beer (quit altogether)
  • no smoking
  • no sex ( I try anyway 😬 )
  • no cable tv (eventually turned into "no cable bill")
  • no skipping workouts

A couple months in I noticed each fast was becoming easier to complete, regardless of the challenge. But it made perfect sense. Not only was I developing strong will power and assertiveness, I was improving my health and quitting bad habits.

Though confidence was never an issue with me these different fasts helped give me the sense that I could do whatever I set my mind to today, not tomorrow. It was no doubt testing myself in this manner ended up having more benefits than I anticipated.

Because of all the things I have on my plate this coming month I chose two things to fast on: smoking and sleeping late. I'll be a lot more productive and ready to bear fruit at the end of the month!

I'll be posting one of these around the beginning every month to bring you all along. I hope this post can inspire some of you to challenge yourself to a monthly fast of your own. Your future self will thank you for it.

Sometimes we have a lot of bad habits and it's difficult to change them because it's so much easier for us, and we actually do harm ourselves. The body remembers everything. :)
