Why does a toothache hurt so much?!?

So while everyone else is enjoying their Christmas presents, Daddy is curled up in a little ball on his death bed.

Well not really on my death bed, but why does a damn toothache hurt to much. It starting with mild pain last night and thought I'd sleep it off. I woke up this morning before the kids, at 4am. Crawling around the bathroom in the dark looking for anything to take the pain away. The Tylenol and Advil barely take the edge of enough but the worst is that since the abscess pocket burst I've been nauseous and chilled.

Unfortunately this happens too often, so I'm not actually worried about dying and have someone off to get me some antibiotics, but it's gonna be a rough couple days till the kick in and the dentist open back up after the holiday.

PS if anyone has any magical treatments let me know

Hey @phelimint. See if you can find some clove oil. It’s an essential oil that you can usually find in a health food store. A drop or two on the tooth should numb the pain. Don’t know if you’ll be able to get some on Christmas Day. Hope you feel better.

Try taking a Motrin or equivalent = 4 200 mg Ibuprofen every 8 hours or alternate with 1000 mg Acetaminophen. Call a pharmacy ask what they recommend or hospital nurse line. Or if you have a pliers handy...joking. Good luck, hope you get relief. Hospital might do emergency extraction, maybe you could check. If you can get to hospital, maybe they prescribe pain killer or antibiotic until you see dentist. If nothing else works, you could always drop a bowling ball on your foot to try to make you forget about your toothache. ;) Don't know any majical cure unless Burt Reynolds is around and he punches you in the mouth like he did to Terry Bradshaw in Hooper.

I second a stone on the foot.
I dont think there is anything worse than a toothache

Sorry you’re having to deal with that on Christmas ☹️ My only advice is some whiskey. Feel better!

Because it's merrily attacking the nerve in that tooth? Apparently putting a clove on the affected tooth or pressing a crushed garlic against the gum is supposed to help, I can't really remember if it helped me or not as the last time I had that kind of pain was a while ago. Dentist can't find anything wrong? :O

Sorry to hear you were blergh on Christmas, my outlaws will probably sympathise some with you as they managed to get gastro on the day :S Are you all good now?
