Snoring can be annoying for the person you are sharing a bed with but it also can be a health issue that should be taken seriously.

Here are some tips you can try to help stop snoring.

1. Roll Over

If you snore this probably sounds familiar. The next time your significant other wakes you to roll over in the middle of the night, he/she just may be onto something.

Experts believe that when you sleep on your side and not your back, you are less likely to snore. This is a great tip because it can work immediately.

2. Raise Up

If you usually sleep with one pillow, try using two. By raising your head, even just a few inches, may help to improve your air passages and help prevent snoring.

3. Exercise and Diet

Are you aware that obesity is one of the leading causes of snoring? If you are overweight there is no better time than now to do something about it. Weight loss will not only help to stop snoring but it can help avoid future health issues.

4. Allergies

Are you always congested? Do you know if you have allergies?

If so, this can be a contributer to your snoring habits. Snoring often happens because of restricted airways and having allergies can contribute to this. One of the first things you can do is rid your home of allergens by using air filtration units. It is just a great idea overall to try and eliminate allergens from your home.

5. Breathe In

A tip you can try that works with sinus infections, allergies, colds, or the flu is to run hot water in the sink. Try inhaling the steam from the running water and you may find your nasal passages will open up and have you breathing better. This in turn will have you sleeping better.

6. Ditch the Bad Habits

If you are a smoker or a heavy drinker, your snoring may be linked to it. These factors are a major cause of snoring so this is a good time to stop.

Summary

These tips above are a great way to help you stop snoring and take control of your nights again. Your other half will also benefit from this. If these tips do not give you any relief and you start to also notice a shortness of breathe during the night, you may have sleep apnea, which you should seek medical attention for.

I bought a MyPillow from mypillow.com, that seems to help. Drinking and carrying around extra weight on the body definitely both contribute to the issue.

Yep, drinking and being overweight do not help the cause.

good post , consequently if none of the above work- stick a pillow over their heads!!!! ( joking)

That probably is thought about 100% of the time!

My grandfather SNORED like... well, there was nothing quite like it. My grandmother claimed that she solved it by clamping a wooden clothespin to his nose. We were never quite sure whether she was joking.

That is a great story that only grandma knows!
