The long journey to be healthy

In 2012 my doctor decided I needed to get another mammogram because it had been 5 years since I had had one. I was 45 and it was that time again for the dreaded mammogram. Those tests are always so painful. They literally squish your breast to about an inch if they can. Well they had me wait after I got it done. They needed to make sure they got what they needed and the technologist needed to read it. Well they found something in my right breast. They took me right away to get another image from the mammogram. They then took me to get an ultrasound with biopsy. You truly do not know the fear I was going through as I laid there on that table waiting for her to finish that ultrasound and biopsy. The doctor there had me schedule an appointment right there with a oncologist surgeon. There were many more test I had to go through. I had to get an MRI of my breast. Which is a very hard thing for me to do. I have had my back fused and my neck fused twice so laying on my belly is a very hard thing. And to stay still while laying on my belly was nearly impossible for me. By the time I got to the surgeon, she had everything together. I had diagnosis of DCIS Ductal Carcinoma in situ. I was scheduled for two weeks later to get a lumpectomy done. After that was done I had to go to another doctor. We talked and between me and the doctor we decided to use the Hormone pill(Tamoxifen). Well I had a reaction to the Hormone pill the first go around and I lost 25 pounds and it was almost impossible for me to put on weight for two years I was 109lbs now I am 5'9" tall so I look like I was skin and bones.
I had to go for my next mammogram that next year . Well they found another spot on same breast and a possible spot on my left. I was lucky left breast turned out to be ok they just left a marker in breast where they took biopsy out and I elected again to have another lumpectomy. They went in through the same incision they had previously made and took out the cancer they also took some lymph nodes out under my right armpit. I again elected to not have the radiation. I did not want to be forced into getting a mastectomy if the cancer came back. Well I have now been cancer free for 3.5 years. I am so grateful to my surgeon and my family and all those who support those with cancer. It is a wonderful thing to see. Every year when I go to get that mammogram I am nervous others around me are very sure it won't be back.
I have been on the hormone pill as well as take black cumin seed oil pills it is a natural thing to take to help with cancer and has so many other things it is good for.
I am very grateful to be cancer free. And to have all the people I have in my life.
