This article is a review of the antiviral actions of vitamin D. In particular it reviews the upregulation of cathelicidin LL-37 and human beta defensin, which have antiviral properties. (Cathelicidin LL-37 also has antimicobacterial activity). I mention this as part of SMO Kidney News because vitamin D supplementation is one of the actions that the nephrologist has been supporting for many years.
