While sodium limitation naturally contributes to lower blood pressure, the benefits of salt reduction are modest. Only 3 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg, how blood is measuring) decreases blood pressure on average. A healthy diet is similar to what is considered to be healthy for all those who have high blood pressure: many whole foods and high salty foods are avoided. Feel free with the salt shaker to use a modest amount of salt.
