To most people the concept of nasal irrigation a disgusting notion and you should be banished to some third world country for even mentioning it. Now get away from me you loathsome freak. The reality is that saline nasal irrigation has been used for centuries to clear nasal passages. Then the pharmaceutical companies rose to power and began to promote their own profit motivated products while devaluing natural common sense home remedies like this one. They were very successful too. Offer just about anyone with a head cold a pill or a neti pot and see which one they choose. If its a senior citizen they won't even ask you what the pill is; down the hatch it goes.
Your Nose Hair Is Very Attractive
Scientists at Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Turkey found that patients with sparse nose hairs were nearly three times as likely to suffer from asthma as those with hairy nostrils. Does this mean an allergy sufferer should shove Rogaine in their nostrils? While that would be hilarious, we'll leave that one to Johnny Knoxville and his Jackasses. Your nose hair is a magnet for the pollen you breathe in; most of which you are allergic to. The problem is that those trapped allergens are never really neutralized and you will eventually pay the piper unless you flush them out. It really is that simple and I know of no pharmaceutical product that works better.
The Dreaded Apparatus
There are basically two choices:
1. Neti Pot (Gravity fed ceramic pot that looks like Aladdin is going to jump out of it)
2. Squeeze Bottle (Allows you to control the pressure and volume of water as you squeeze)
Both will do the job just fine if you can remember to use it. You will also pick your nose a lot less. You know you do it.
The Recipe
- ½ tsp of Himalayan sea salt
- ½ tsp of baking soda
- Luke warm filtered or distilled water (mix it well)
You can purchase premixed packages or make it yourself. Don't use tap water! Don't drink it either for that matter.
