365 Days - Day 11 - Setting the first goals towards....?

in health •  7 years ago  (edited)

Several months ago I've bought a Fitbit to see if it could give me a bit more insight in my activities, eating patterns etc. I've written a post about it 2 days ago : Fitbit

To recap : I used the fitbit to track the amount of steps for each day, how many calories I've eaten, how many calories I've supposedly burned, my heart rate during the day and for running (for as long as I was able to).

I started at the end of January with a weight of 83KG. I didn't really notice the weight gaining until I was unable to close some pants properly which made me aware that something needed to be done. So to be able to change I needed to become aware of my habits. How much do I walk, what do I eat and how much is that in total and how can I effectively change that. I started to run and I found out that my condition isn't bad at all. But I wasn't able to keep on running because my knee started acting up again. I had it operated in January 2016 because I had sustained cartilage damage by over-stretching because I almost slipped. I found out that having a few good walks during the day is just as effective if not more for burning calories that running is.

In the months that followed I was able to get to 73KG. According to the BMI chart still overweight ... but I had to buy some new pants because even with a belt they started to almost drop down to my ankles.

And then I started to get sloppy. I needed to charge the fitbit but kept on delaying that and started to eat more 'unhealthy'.

A few days ago I did charged the fitbit again and I'm setting some new goals to achieve.
I'm currently back to 75KG so I like to get back to 73KG on the 20th of august.

Having the fitbit on for a full day yesteday these were the results :

I also like the fact that it tracks your sleeping pattern. Usually it does a fairly good job at it.

It was very warm last night and I was awake a lot because of the heavy rain and thunder that was falling.

So let's see how far I'm going to get. I'll be updating regularly here on Steemit.

Thank you for your reply! I fully intend to keep my health as good as possible :)

Yes i think it's your right decision to keep your health good nic to talk to you @thetimminator

After reading this article, I start to become curious about your length, as you say 73kg is still overweight.
Fortunately, I'm one of those people who hardly gain weight.
That doesnt mean that I always feel fit though. Plus mental health is at least as important as physical health.

My height is 1.70m. Not really that big. Even though it doesn't show, my BMI is telling that it's still overweight.
But I'm not really paying attention to what the BMI says that I should weigh but rather what I want for myself.

I don't really gain weight very fast, but it still gains. I totally agree with you : mental health is just as important if not more important.

Right, I'm 1.84 and only weigh about 70 kgs. It's considered healthy but I wouldn't mind weighing a little more. The only way for me to do so though is start working out and eating even more.

I'd like to buy a Fitbit too. I have an app on my phone called Pacer which records my steps, but I'd prefer a little activity tracker watch. It definitely makes me more conscious of my activity and inactivity.

The problem with a phone is that (at least I) don't always have it with me all the time. That creates some gaps in the steps that have been made. The watch is on me all day and night. (as long as I charge it. It can work for almost 5 days before I have to charge it again.).

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I also don't like carrying my phone around in my pocket too much, too much radiation beside sensitive parts! Lol

exactly my thing. I tend or even try to leave my phone at home these days as often as possible, so this iPhone health app has no idea how much steps I take a day ;)

I purchased a Fitbit Flex 2 recently and am finding it helpful to motivate me to get up and move more, especially when sitting at the computer. The hourly vibration on my wrist makes me notice that time has gone by and I'm still parked.. so move.

It is also helping me rebuild from a recent illness as I have set goals to help build my distance and stamina.

I agree. I can see now when I haven't reached the amount of activity that I've set for myself yet and even motivate to get more activity than the day before.

Good luck with rebuilding your distance and stamina!

the upside of not getting where you wanted, is you get to keep trying until you do. The act of trying is still more than giving up.

I like the photo. These are amazing...!
