Ohio child dies from the flu. Officials say flu activity is ‘high’

in health •  9 months ago

Ohio has reported its first pediatric flu death for the 2023-2024 flu season and is urging people to get vaccinated to prevent more deaths. There have already been over 900 influenza-related hospitalizations in Ohio, with the highest numbers in several counties. The state's health department is advising people to get vaccinated now as we are in the peak of flu season. This comes after six flu-related child deaths in the previous flu season, which saw lower numbers due to the COVID pandemic. Flu activity in the state has been increasing since December and is currently classified as "high." It is recommended to practice good hygiene, such as frequent hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes, to prevent the spread of the flu.
