Getting Sick Sucks and What I Do About It

Good evening, Steemians.

It seems that once a year I get sick one way or another. I know a friend from work gave it to me, so I guess I'm not surprised by it. My symptoms area always the same. It starts out with a tickle in the throat, some extra mucus (not like pre-vegan mucus though ((yuckkkkk)) and then moved to a sinus infection with runny nose (current stage). I usually treat myself extra nicely during this time and am relieved within 2-3 days. "How do I do this?" You might ask. I've had a pretty good formula for the past few years that seems to work very well.

#1. Sleep as much as I feel I need.

This one can be hard but luckily I have a 3 day weekend because of Labor Day (woo-hoo!)

#2. Buy the following things:

-Ginger: to make ginger tea
-Citrus (limes, lemons, or oranges) for extra Vitamin C and stuff.
-Soursop (this one is newer, within the past few years)
-Turmeric (use extra of this spice when I'm sick.)

#3. Hydrate as much as possible.

My mom is a nurse (has been all of my life) and so this is like religion to me by this point. You want to avoid dairy at all costs and hydrate to thin your mucus.

#4. Sweat:

I know it sounds crazy, but if you get enough sleep, you don't need to stay in bed all day when you are sick. I like to get a sweat going and then take a shower because it makes me feel much better. ******This definitely depends on what kind of sick you are************.

#5. Green tea: I drink a lot of this when I'm sick.

#6. Avoid too much salt/sodium and overly processed foods.

#7. Stick to whole plant foods or water fast.

These are the few things I do when I get sick about once a year (or less) which seem to truly help me get over sickness quicker than I used to when I didn't do these things. Hope you enjoyed!
