Ibuprofen linked to male infertility, study says

in health •  7 years ago

Ibuprofen has a negative impact on the testicles of young men, a study published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found. When taking ibuprofen in doses commonly used by athletes, a small sample of young men developed a hormonal condition that typically begins, if at all, during middle age. This condition is linked to reduced fertility.

Advil and Motrin are two brand names for ibuprofen, an over-the-counter pain reliever. CNN has contacted Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson, the makers of both brands, for comment.

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association, a trade group that represents manufacturers of over-the-counter medications and supplements, "supports and encourages continued research and promotes ongoing consumer education to help ensure safe use of OTC medicines," said Mike Tringale, a spokesman for the association. "The safety and efficacy of active ingredients in these products has been well documented and supported by decades of scientific study and real-world use."

I love how they spin it and say the dose is commonly used by athletes as not to alarm most people. When the dose they talk about is 600 milligrams twice a day. I know plenty of non-athletes that take 600 to 1200 milligrams per day when they have chronic back problems or migrain headaches.

This shit is bad news. It's bad for pregnant women, men and probably everyone else. You should probably need a prescription for this so call medicine if there's so many negative side effects.

I wonder how many thousands of men out there that spend ten of thousand of dollars on fertility treats and were taking a lot of Ibuprofen at the time? I think there might be some class action lawsuits in the future for the these drug companies.

It just goes to show you how many double edge swords there are with modern pharmacological medicine. If they weren't protected by the government most of these drug companies would be out of business.

This is not a good sign. Most of the people take ibuprofen as painkiller (unknowingly). This might be one reason of yearly increasing rate of infertility. Now, it's the time to think twice before prescribing this!

Garlic, ginger, turmeric, and many other natural remedies are far more effective as an anti inflammatory. Great article @wakeupnd ! No

Please excuse the *No at the end of my statement. LOL
