OBJECTIVES OF THE PRECEPTORSHIP PROGRAMME
The goal of the preceptorship programme was to design an intervention programme that will help improve adherence to anti-TB drugs by the TB patients in Chest Clinic, Rumuigbo,Obio/Akpor L.G.A, which will eventually lead to reduction of the complications attached to non-adherence to the drugs. However, the specific objectives set to achieve the identified goal are as follows:
a.To work closely with the health personnel on ground to assess their previous efforts towards the prevention and control of tuberculosis in the area.
b.To appraise the attitudes of the TB patients towards anti-TB drugs
c.To identify specific reasons why the TB patients might not adhere to their anti-TB drugs
d.To sensitize and educate the patients on the need to adhere to the anti-TB drugs
SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME
The preceptorship programme was carried out for a period of one academic session, from February 1 to October 30, 2016. During the period of the programme, the researcher worked five times in a week and spent an average of six hours a day in the health center.
