Social care faces what is being described as an “unprecedented crisis” due to staff shortages.

Hiring Statistics

Across England, there are a total of 39,000 establishments in adult social care.

There are 1.67m jobs across social care and care homes compared to the 1.3m jobs with the NHS.

52% of applications come from job boards.

18.76% of overall hires come from job boards.

The future of Healthcare

If the number of adults aged 65 and over continues to proportionately increase it’s estimated that the number of adult social care job vacancies will increase by 29% / 480,000 jobs which could mean by 2035 there will be around 2.16 million jobs available.

Benefits of working in the health care sector

• Diversity

  • You’ll be introduced to new environments, meet new people and do different tasks as part of your day to day. There really isn’t ever a quiet or dull moment when working in care.

• Rewarding

  • It is a fulfilling sector to be working in. You’ll know that at the end of each day you’ve helped to improve someone’s quality of life and make a big difference to them as well as their family and friends by helping. That connection just can’t be compared to.

• Financial remuneration

  • Bonuses/ working overtime

  • Pensions

  • Generous holiday allowances

  • Loyalty schemes

Additional private healthcare benefits

• More responsive workplaces to work

You’ll be a lot more hands-on, ideas and alterations are implemented much more quickly than those in the public sector. This can be a big motivator as you can help to improve people’s wellbeing quickly!

• Training

To get the most from you after being onboarded as an employee most of the time you’ll be given training and the opportunities for further training thereafter. This is sometimes missed in the NHS due to stretched budgets.

• Reduced case load

Working in private healthcare can sometimes mean a reduced number of residents. Although employees will still be faced with challenges you hopefully won’t be as overstretched as you would be working in the NHS.
