The Mount Carmel hospital system in Ohio is at the center of a growing patient-death scandal that involves allegations that numerous patients might have lived if they would've received proper care, instead it's reported that several were wrongfully given excessive amounts of painkillers which might have contributed to their death.

It's reported that at least three dozen intensive-care patients lost their lives after they had received excessive painkiller doses while being cared for in the hospital system.

It's also alleged that at least one doctor, Dr. W. Husel, has been fired over allegations that he wrongfully prescribed fatal doses of painkillers to several patients. That doctor, Husel, has also requested that a state medical hearing be held on the matter.

Families of the victims are suing the hospital...

The hospital system is facing at least 22 wrongful-death lawsuits. It's also reported that so far at least 20 employees have been removed from patient care after an investigation into the matter which includes nurses and pharmacists who were a part of administering the medication to those who lost their lives.

Now, there are reports suggesting that 2 hospitals with the Mount Carmel healthcare system in Ohio might lose their Medicare funding because of the recent scandal.

A spokeswoman for the healthcare system has suggested that they are willing to work with authorities fully to be sure that something like this never takes place again. It's expected that they will soon be submitting an action plan to address the incident, along with detailed plans on how they intend to ensure patient safety going forward.

Families of the victims are left now reliving the pain and fighting for justice for their loved ones.

Some of them had thought their family member died from natural causes, until they got a call from the hospital telling them their loved one was given too much pain medication; that someone who they expected to be able to trust put their family member in danger.

The CEO and President of Mount Carmel has released two statements on the matter and has admitted that there weren't proper processes in place to prevent this sort of situation from happening because of the ability of individuals to override access to pain medications from dispensing machines at the hospital.
