I am pleased to participate in 1st week of SLC Season 23. I love learning from these Challenges. This week Iwe will be learning learn about macronutrients.. So Let's start,
Based on what you learned in this class, do you consider that you have been eating a healthy diet? Explain your answer.
Yes, I consider I mostly eat healthy food, but the quality of my food needs to be improved as per this lecture. I always try to eat healthy foods.which include Proteins, Carbohydrate and fat.
Protein | chicken, beef, and eggs. |
---|---|
Complex carbohydrates | Oats, rice, and vegetables. |
Fat | Almonds, nut, fish fat |
My daily food list also includes milk as a standard food. However, yes, I do occasionally eat processed foods like white bread, sugary foods, and drink fruit juice which I now realize after reading this class lecture is to eat less for better health. This course has helped me understand the importance of macronutrients and how to make better choices.
Share 1 image in which we can see a recommended protein versus a non-recommended protein and what cooking method you normally use for each one.
For a recommended protein I will go for eggs and for a non - recommend protein I will mention sausage. I regularly consume eggs and often consume sausages. We all love egg.
I cook eggs in many ways. But the method I use the most is boiled. Apart from boiling, I also eat egg omelets, fries and traditional Bangladeshi curry. In traditional egg curry, we use potatoes, spices and edible oil, so it is cooked in this way for very less time. But if normally, the way I consume eggs more is boiled. Eggs can be boiled in two ways, one is full boiled and the other is half boiled. I prefer full boiled than half boiled but my nephew loves half boil eggs.
To be honest, I had no idea about non-recommended proteins until now. I usually consume sausages and some non-recommended proteins. But of course, after reading this lecture, my misconceptions broke and I will try not to eat them from now on. I normally cook sausages with noodles. It is almost always stored in my fridge but unfortunately I don't have it today but a few days ago I took a photograph of it while cooking noodles.
Share 1 image in which we can see a recommended fat versus a non-recommended fat and explain how you normally consume it.
For a recommended fat I will go for nuts and for non - recommend fat I will mention sunflower oil. I regularly consume nuts specially almonds and once in my life tried sunflower oil.
Almonds are my favorite. I eat them directly as nuts. I also consume them in any dessert item and sometimes I make desserts with them. I use its paste in chicken roast and beef curry. The most interesting way I consume it is with betel leaves. Although I rarely consume it with betel leaves, it is my favorite. I shared with you at the beginning that I do not consume non-recommended fats. However, I once used sunflower oil many years ago. I used it to fry various curries and vegetables. I used this oil to prepare various fried items.
Share in images dishes (at least 3) that you normally prepare at home, identify the groups of macronutrients explained in class, evaluate them as understood in this class and explain whether or not you would change the way you have prepared them. (STEP BY STEP PREPARATION IS NOT NECESSARY)
Dish 1: Noodles with sausage and egg.
- Proteins: Egg (recommended protein), Sausage (non- recommended protein)
- Fats: Soybean oil (non-recommended fat)
- Carbohydrates: Noodles ( It is refined so non-recommended carbohydrate )
Evaluation: Soybean oil is a highly processed industrial oil and is a non-recommended fat, so it cannot be used. If I had not done this course, I would not have known about this at all. The noodles I used here are refined, so they cannot be used. Refined noodles are non-recommended carbohydrates. From this course, I also learned that sausage is a non-recommended protein that should not be consumed. So it is not an ideal food, and changes are needed here.
Changes:
❌ | ✅ |
---|---|
Soybean oil | Olive oil, coconut oil, butter or melted butter |
Sausages | Chicken pieces or meat |
Refined noodles | Grain-noodles |
Dish 2: Vegetables with Broccoli, Potato, and Oil
- Proteins: Broccoli (recommended protein but contains minimal protein)
- Fats: Soybean oil (non-recommended fat)
- Carbohydrates: Potato (recommended)
Evaluation: This is a broccoli vegetable but we know that broccoli has very minimal protein content. So to prepare this as an ideal vegetable, some other protein rich vegetables need to be added here. Apart from that, it is better not to use soybean oil like in the previous item.
Changes:
Ingredients | Changes |
---|---|
Soybean oil | Olive oil, coconut oil, butter or melted butter |
Broccoli | Add chickpeas, carrot, beans with broccoli |
Potato | should use in moderate amount |
Dish 3: Fish Curry with Beans, Potato, Punti Fish, Oil.
- Proteins: Punti fish, beans ( both are recommended protein)
- Fats: Soybean oil (non-recommended fat)
- Carbohydrates: Potato (recommended)
Evaluation: Soybean oil is a highly processed industrial oil and is a non-recommended fat, so it cannot be used. If I had not done this course, I would not have known about this at all. The noodles I used here are refined, so they cannot be used. Refined noodles are non-recommended carbohydrates. From this course, I also learned that sausage is a non-recommended protein that should not be consumed. So it is not an ideal food, and changes are needed here.
After reading this lecture, I realized that this dish of mine is a pretty perfect meal. Because most of the ingredients here are recommended. Fish and beans are both recommended proteins and potatoes are recommended carbohydrates. However, like the above two items, I have used soybean oil here too, which is a non-recommended fat.
Ingredients | Changes |
---|---|
Soybean oil | Olive oil, coconut oil, butter or melted butter |
Broccoli | Chickpeas, carrot, beans with broccoli |
Potato | should use in moderate amount |

Nice one on your explanation and writeup on macronutrients. It is true that most times we consume food that are not healthy and we feel it is healthy.
But I'm grateful, in this class you were able to identify this food that needs to be avoided.
Wishing you success 👍

Greetings, excellent comparison of healthy foods and those that we should not consume so much, it is true that sometimes at home we have many foods that we think are healthy, but it is good to learn about these changes that we must make in our diet.
Good luck and success.
