ASK FATWA TO THE HEART.
Ask for a fatwa on your heart, whether what you do is part of the good or not? Does he include a form of obedience to Allah Ta'ala and His Apostle or not? Or it will bring the wrath of Allah Ta'ala and His Apostle.
THEN ASK IT ALL TO YOUR HEART ...
Goodness is anything that can soothe your heart and placate your soul, whereas evil is anything that makes your heart hesitate and uneasy.
Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said from the companions of An-Nawwas bin Sam'an radhiyallahu' anhu:
البر حسن الخلق, و الإثم ما حاك في نفسك و كرهت أن يطلع عليه الناس
"Good is good behavior, while sin is anything that doubles your soul and you do not like to show it to others." (Muslim)
In another hadith the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said:
عن وابصة بن معبد رضي الله عنه قال: أتيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم, فقال: جئت تسأل عن البر? قلت: نعم. قال: استفت قلبك. البر مااطمأن إليه النفس واطمأن إليه القلب. والإثم ماحاك في النفس و تردد في الصدر وإن أفتاك الناس وأفتوك.
From Wabishah ibn ma'bad radhiyallahu 'anhu he said: I came to the Messenger of Allaah' alaihi wa sallam, then he said: "You came to ask about goodness?" I replied: true. Then he said (meaning): "MINUTE FATWA TO YOUR HEART. Goodness is anything that comforts your heart and soul. While sin is what causes the heart to worry and worry even though many people say that it is good. "
