The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 2, DTube Video #5

in hebrew •  6 years ago  (edited)

Welcome back to my DTube Hebrew reading & language series.

The full study is now on line covering the Alef-Beyt here in my blog. This is a beginners program to teach letters, vowels, and reading. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced. The confusion is obvious in the hundreds of interpretations globally. In modern Hebrew, only children need a niqqud or vowel marking for each letter. Old manuscripts also usually have vowels marked.

We are reading Genesis 2:13-17

you shall die

We are still in the garden describing the rivers that flow around the different lands. Today is the first day God talks to man. These were the days where everything was perfect, nothing was meant to die ever. There was only one rule in all of the law. Do not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

This is also the first mention of death as a possibility. What you see around you, mass shootings and the like, is not God's intention, but it was the choice of the first man.

Some interpretation notes.

him or us

One thing that seems to be straying from the norm is Mi-mey-noo (left), interpreted as from him, but most every other use of the ending ey-noo is interpreted as our or us, whereas him is nearly always a "vav" connected to the end of the word. Curious.

I have shown and taught these suffix-like endings in many of the earlier lessons. This one is note worthy and I would like an explanation if there is a good one.

Another thing you may notice is that names of things are sometimes the same, Gihon and Cush. Other times, they are just completely changed when interpreted to English. Tigris is "khi-de-khel" and the Euphrates is "f'raht", and the reason is anyone's guess. I will attest to the fact that many languages take many liberties with names.

Here is today's reading

Last week a two-minute reading took almost no time to upload. Now I can read longer portions and not worry so much about five-hour-long upload times. I am still considering a writing post mid-week if I have time.

Do not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

He gave man a choice and he made the human choice. Most of us know how it ended.
"vav" is very well known to me since you’ve already mentioned it many times before.

I will attest to the fact that many languages take many liberties with names.

That’s true! I noticed it many times before.
Great lesson as always.

There is a book in the post-yeshua writings called the book of James (en), Santiago (sp), and Y'acob (ivrit) that I use as an example in person. It is not just book names that are changed, but all the names have been changed in all the books making it difficult to even converse with peoples of different languages.

Thank you for a very genuine comment!

Great and amazing post @hebrew sir. Hebrew belongs to the Canaanite group of languages. In turn, the Canaanite languages are a branch of the Northwest Semitic family of languages. According to Avraham Ben-Yosef, Hebrew flourished as a spoken language in the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah during about 1200 to 586 BCE.

Thank you for the lesson! “Mi-mey-noo” means “from him”, where at the same time almost always “vav” means “him”. And thank you for reminding us of prohibited fruit. At the end God gave us a choice and it’s remained that way for thousands of years.

History - Hebrew nation

a11.jpg

The branches of the Semitic nation which dominated Syria and Palestine, they were divided into phynisian, Aramaic, and Hebrew, in three different periods. Ancient Israelis are known in Hebrew as Hebrew or Jewish nation in history. The Hebrew nation claims that their original parents Abraham (Hazrat Ibrahim).

In the beginning, the Jews were nomadic, and once they were able to search the land, they left Arab Desert and settled in Kanane (later called Palestine) and settled (1500-1200 BC).
One of their branches went to Egypt and took Pharaoh's slavery. Later, with the help of Hazrat Musaar (A), they got rid of Pharaoh's slavery. Under the leadership of David, the Hebrew nation created an empire. A glorious chapter in the history of the Hebrew nation during its 40-year reign. The Hebrew Empire under the rule of Hazrat Solomon (961-922 AD), son and successor of David, ascended the highest peak of glory. Solomon has done many good works for the country. He built a large building in the city of Jerusalem, the capital city of the Hebrew kingdom. At that time the fame of the Hebrew nation spread all around. But after the death of Solomon, the fall of the Hebrew Empire began. The northern part of the Hebrew kingdom divided into two parts was called Israel and the Southern Judas. In 722 BC, the Assyrians occupy the Israeli kingdom. King of the Kaldia Nebuchadnezzar secured Judas 586 BC.

Hebrew culture is some of the traditional history which I constantly try to spread knowledge with you.

Great lesson of Hebrew language.thanks for sharing. very useful information.
100% like and resteem

I find all of this very fascinating. I'm obviously walking into the middle of this, so will go back to the beginning but I thought I'd let you know I enjoyed seeing this here and looking at the Hebrew and its translation, along with the commentary. Where you talk about first man choosing death, I particularly found that intriguing.

This language is spoken by over 9 million people worldwide.

You are really amazing @hebrew reading the comments below will say how importent your classes are.

Dtube videos are so nice sir its great to learn this language i am so happy @hebrew today, once again thank you so much.

Very interesting concept sir loving your videos a lot @hebrew.

⚙️ Type of writing system: abjad

⚙️ Direction of writing: right to left in horizontal lines.

⚙️ Number of letters: 22 consonants, plus final letters and diacritics

⚙️ Used to write: Hebrew, Judeo-Arabic, Ladino, Yiddish and many other Jewish languages.

⚙️ Some letters (kaf, mem, nun, fe and tzadi) have a final form (sofit), which is used when they appear at the end of a word.

⚙️ There are no separate numerals in Hebrew, instead standard western numerals (1, 2, 3, etc) are usually used. In some circumstances, however, Hebrew letters are used to represent numbers. For example, in days of the week, for dates in the Hebrew calendar, and in school grades. The numerical values of the letters are shown below.

⚙️ Long vowels can be indicated by the letters alef, vav, and yod. Short vowels are not usually marked, except in the Bible, poetry and books for children and foreign learners

hebrew_cons.gif

⚔️ This system of indicating vowels was devised by the Masoretic scholars in Tiberias in around 750 AD. It is known as Tiberian vocalization, Tiberian pointing, or Tiberian niqqud, or נִיקוּד טְבֵרִיָנִי in Hebrew.
