The ancient language of ivrit ( עברית ) - Pey

in hebrew •  7 years ago

Like the Alphabet, The letters in Hebrew are called the Alef - Beyt and they are presented on my blog from bottom to the top so you can learn them order, then to read them right to left. You will see what the original "Bible" said and what the names meant as they went through the stories of old.

Note that there are two that are the same, but one has a Dagesh (the dot in the middle) so we pronounce it like a "P" sound in English. If there is no Dagesh, then it is pronounced like an "F" (this includes the final form below).

Pey symbolizes a mouth and means speech itself. It's a complicated letter to learn because it has two different pronunciations and a Sofit (final) form.

It is the seventeenth letter. It is a consonant and has the numerical value of 80 when used as a number.

Can you think of another letter that has a Dagesh that changes its pronunciation?

Which other letters have a Sofit form or a form they take at the end of a word?

Where we are so far

source

Only 5 more letters and you will be reading! Well, there are many letters you can read already.

Let's also start studying our vowels. There are five sounds that go with any of the letters you know.

Try putting one of the letters you know in the square and say that letter and the vowel under it

Example: if you place Lamed in the squares, you would have Lah Lay Lee Low Lew - downward.

Here is a chart.

  • the square represents any letter.
  • the vowels are positioned as they would be in a written word.
  • there are five lines of vowels - five sounds

On the left a word that contains the vowel sound

00feddfc-2f5c-4661-a317-e02fcab6bea7.jpg

On the right a representation of that sound.

They are nearly the same as in Spanish and in the same order!

I have to say that there are slight differences - one might be a little longer than the one next to it, but the sound is the same. There are also combinations that may extend the sound of a vowel. I will leave this chart on the next seven lessons as we go through more letters.

We will soon be reading

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Great shot! You have my full support.

thank you very much. it says a lot. tuff days in israel. hope that i will not be called to the flag to fight those terorists shooting at us from gaza.

תודה רבה, תמיכתך אומרת הרבה. המצב בישראל מאוד נפיץ בימים אלו על רקע הכרזתו של טראמפ בעניינה של בירתו הנצחית של העם היהודי ירושלים. מקווה שלא אצטרך להלחם בעצמי בטרוריסטים שיורים עלינו מעזה במסגרת מילואים.

תודה על התמיכה :)

Very amazing post, @hebrew! As of lately my dreams have been super lucid and really different things I never thought I would dream about me speaking Hebrew and an ancient Egyptian language at once using Necromancer magic, etc, but I'm cool in my dreams like I'm so amazing in dream land, lol. I feel like, in my past life, I was a girl named Seraphine. Crazy, mystical things happening in my life. :p

Another great @hebrew lesson. It is a very nice looking letter. Now I want to know words that begin with pey and end with phey ....

Ha ha ... Here is one that begins with Pe..... פנה PNH

FACE: The anterior part of the human head; outward appearance. One present, in the sense of being in the face of another. Often used in the context of being before or in front of. (Always written in the plural form, but usually used as a singular noun) Hebrew: פנה pa-neh-masc. Alt. Trans.: before; in front of (when prefixed with "to~"); within (when suffixed with "~unto") Strong's: #3942, #6440 [Lexicon] [Concordance] http://www.mechanical-translation.org/mtt/mt-words.html

Thanks for this Link.

Here is one for the Final .... FALL. UPON(Verb): To suddenly and forcefully crash upon someone or something. Hebrew: שוף sh.w.p-com.

FAMILY.IDOL: A household idol of a god, possibly believed to have a healing power. Hebrew: תרף te-raph-masc.

@Sir, my reply might be little bit bigger, because, I'm going to answer both questions you asked there.... Sir I used google to find answers for them...

Question #1
Can you think of another letter that has a Dagesh that changes its pronunciation?

Question #2
Which other letters have a Sofit form or a form they take at the end of a word?

+W+ [UpVoted & ReSteemed]

You covered them all! Many are asking me to read and I have wanted to read on Steemit. They problem is that some letters are everywhere and they are the last few. Shin, Resh, and Tav appear constantly.

There is a word "et" that usually precedes the direct object and ends with Tav. Ex: In the beginning God created "et" the heavens and the earth...

There is another word "asher" (that, which, who,) and you can't do without it. This one has Shin and Resh in it.

So audio has to wait until we know the sounds for each letter.

Review and practice in the meantime.

its very good and helpful explanation to understand the words more wisely .... thank you for explaining

Nice. Is it true that in old hebrew language some hebrew word has more meanings. It can be skin or light. I somewhere saw that but i can't remember where. So most of translated bibles from hebrew lost a lot of it's original meaning.

Most of the meaning is there. Some of the culture is not being represented at times. Hebrew is cyclical and not so lateral.

This is a very valuable article. We are very useful in learning the language.
Thank you for submitting such an article.
In the future, I expect another valuable letter. Also, you received very valuable comments from your article.

Thanks @hebrew

Learning the Hebrew Letter Pey/Fey over on @Hebrew Steemit blog

I Love this Story of the Power of God through simple Faith. Believe and you shall have Life.

Mark 5:24-34

"A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, (tallit) I will be healed." Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was made Free from her suffering.

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"

"You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' "

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole TRUTH. He said to her, "Daughter, your FAITH has healed you. Go in peace and be FREE from your suffering."

Shared here: https://steemit.com/hebrew/@offgridlife/john-8-32-and-you-will-know-the-truth-and-that-truth-will-set-you-free

The thing that is most interesting is that she was required to dwell outside the city. She was also required to yell "Unclean" if anyone were to come near enough to touch her. If someone were to touch her, they would become unclean. She was risking her life and breaking the Torah by coming into a crowd and touching Him.

Yet she touched the embodiment of purity in order to get well.

Amen

That's pretty cool to know thanks for the tips by the way, have a nice..

Cheers~

Thank for new post with new alphabet of irvit

Hebrew language seem interesting to learn but it will be easier to learn if we speak it with those who already know it. I guess.

I agree. That is the case when the two languages share the same alphabet. but it would be harder to learn the alefbeyt after having learned to speak - well, more boring at least. Children learn to communicate and then see what sentences look like later.

My goal is to understand what I read, and learn the roots first. Then learn modern Hebrew speech and mannerisms.

Ok. I understand.

Sure.

Good @hebrew and thank for you my friend @hebrew

Thanks for those words pic with highlighting them

I have always taken a fancy into learning different languages that's why learning has been easier for me. I believe if we put some 'interest' in anything, we can learn that 'something' speedily until or unless we suffer from some educational disease. So far, I have learnt 4 languages and I am open to learn more. I think, you've have very good teaching skills. However, one can learn from video in a speedy way. I'm not learning this language at this point but it seems interesting. Amazingly, the initials sounds of the letters in different languages are the same. Good job @hebrew. Keep it up and never stop sharing dear fellow. It might be helping many.
