Trying To Remove The Stigma Surrounding Hemp

in hemp •  7 years ago

Hemp is still demonized in the eyes of many, who see it as being a harmful and otherwise useless substance that couldn't possibly be able to provide any good to humanity.

But hemp is one of the oldest domesticated crops known to man and there's a lot of good that it could provide if more people would take the chance in exploring the opportunity to see what sort of potential there is for a hemp market.

And throughout the US, a growing number are moving to make this change.

One effort in particular that's trying to erode the stigma, is the Hemp Farmacy in North Carolina. The Hemp Farmacy is a chain of dispensaries, the first of its kind in the state, selling hemp and CBD products. Right now they've only got two locations.

Though strict federal restrictions are still in place surrounding the cultivation and sale of hemp etc, states have been officially encouraged to start their own pilot hemp projects for the purposes of research and more. A number of them, like Oregon, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Colorado, have taken that opportunity to explore the possibilities for hemp development and research.

The Hemp Farmacy in NC is looking to educate the community on the benefits of hemp; trying to remove some of the stigma surrounding it.

They want to provide the public with important information about what hemp is, as well as CBD, the difference between hemp and cannabis with high THC, as well as showing them different types of products that can be made using hemp. They also cover the long history of hemp in the USA as well as the process of it becoming outlawed.

Hemp is seen as an amazing crop to many farmers for a number of reasons: detoxes the soil, prevents soil erosion, uses less water to grow, and doesn't require pesticides. The industrial hemp doesn't contain enough THC to get you 'high' so there isn't any need to worry about it on that front. And it can be grown a lot quicker, only taking on average about 4 months for it to mature.

As more people begin to learn about the benefits that hemp can provide, it's not surprising that a growing number would begin to question the remaining restrictions surrounding it. In the US, the hemp and cannabis market is only expected to grow in the next few years to come, the CBD market alone is expected to reach $2.1 billion.

I'm in the market for some new t-shirts for this summer and have chosen Hemp Blended T's. I've had some in the past and find them very breathable and comfortable. Perfect timing @doitvoluntarily for this post :)

It's very important that hemp industry leaders are doing their best to shift the public perspective on a crop that has been demonized for decades.

Good work here, thanks for the info

hemp is certainly a super-product that can create countless useful materials, it's a shame they suppress it

I'm just chilling in Denver like. WHAT hahaha sorry I live in Utah but im on vacation.

We should really find newer uses for all the natural resources that are wasted around us.

I definitely see it as one of the many best gifts of nature to mankind, screw the government and the negativity!

I vote for this!!!

i consume hemp every day in form of "protein"-Powder i knew it was on of the most powerful plants nature gave us but i definitely lerned something new reading your post. I hope it will be more mass adopted in the futere just for the sustanability aspect alone!

interesante informaion, aqui en Venezuela, esa planta parece que tiene otro nonbre tratare de investigar, creo haberla visto.

Hey , thanks brother for great article . respect

Smoke weed every day :)

why on earth we keep ignoring this ridiculously important resource is beyond me. On the plus side, here in Canada we're jumping on the legalisation train finally - though cannabis in general is widely accepted, used, and loved here. Cops will never hassle you over a joint or two, and here in BC we have a huge 420 party.

Medical uses and recreational uses aside, why a few old men in dark rooms still control our ability to make pulp and paper products, fuels, oils, and all of the rest cheaply, safely, and more sustainably frigging boggles the mind. Advocates like you are growing, both in numbers and in influence...and it's going to make a difference!

Very educative post. Wana emplore you to take time and check my blog anytime you can. Thanks. Followed.

interesting :)

I can't believe that a simple plant can cause so much drama.

One of my biggest goals in my professional career is to own a network of hemp processing plants around the US. It's an uphill battle to get governments or even big companies to separate hemp from marijuana. Facebook won't even let you advertise hemp based products on the platform, not even soap. Most credit card processors will decline your application or close your account if they are aware that you are selling hemp products. It's insane man! It will take a massive mass marketing campaign to change the public perception of this amazing plant.

Wow awesome content

Free all the seeds! Here's to the future. Here in North Carolina, the first industrial hemp was planted in the ground last week. Very exciting return of an amazing crop!

Good post

Marijuana...

Great article. I assume that with relaxing laws around cannabis in many states, hemp production will increase.

I have some shares in Hemp, it's been slowly taking off. Most of that stuff is legislative though...And when things have to be decided based on legislature, it's hard for things to get moving. Check out the article on the North Carolina facility.

Love the article. If you still watch TV, think your children are getting educated at public school, receive immunizations, take drugs from the doctor, Eat GMO food, carry a cell phone where ever you go. Most of these people are not going to wake up ever. No matter what you tell them. They are what I call mentally sterilized and they will defend the system that did this to them.

There's an awesome article in Nat Geo (read it online this morning) about the industry in Italy.

We have just seen the legalisation of medical marijuana here in Australia. At the moment its for children with seizure related conditions and the terminally ill. Official trials are ongoing. It's a step forward, but it is industrially grown marijuana. We believe it to be GMO. We will will see how it goes. I have campaigned for the legalisation of it for medical use and have seen the benefits on cannibis oil for children with seizure related conditions and illnesses, and have heard so many testimonies of the overwhelming success of it. Why anyone wouldn't want to help children with it is beyond me, so I am so pleased we have at least gotten this far.
I've also had hemp clothing and money purses. The durability of it, I've not seen in any other material.

ahhhh my daily dose of hemp :-)

You never heard of a stoned man come home and beat his wife. Yet alcohol is totally legal.

I find it interesting that so many people find hemp as a terrible thing. Yet, things like cigeretts and alcohol are all still very legal. Those two things don't provide any benefits for us. Thus, why hemp which has potentional benefits demonized as some evil subtence. I truly don't understand this thinking.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting. Upvoted and resteemed. There's a docuseries coming up on Tuesday this coming week that sheds some light on this topic. You can go here and register and watch for free. The word is getting out. Share and spread this info. 7 webinar series is free to watch!

due to the manufactured 'marijuana' scare of the early thirties that conflated hemp and cannabis with sexual licence and interracial relations, hemp has gotten a bad rap. most people don't know that hemp has many important industrial uses from fiber for long-lasting clothing and paper products to oils that are better than petroleum based products. hemp upsets the established apple carts of well-monied and politically connected interests

Too many vested interests keeping hemp down.

It is definite that hemp should be legal to grow as a crop. Marijuana should be considered a vegetable. The benefits of eating raw cannabis are in the public for everyone to see. Great post thanks !

Great article @doitvoluntarily! cannabis help in the medical field despite the negative perception in the society. It also gave Colorado a favorable increase in revenue.

You have to educate people on why the made it illegal:

I with you 100%. That is why I live in Spain where it isnt illegal. You cant sell it, but you wont go to jail or ruin your life for getting caught with a bag.

Nice article. I think hemp can do a lot of good things for us. In medicine and for fun, for food and clothing. Everything is possible :) Thank you for sharing :)

@doitvoluntarily - Great post! We the people need to keep the pressure on for change. Decriminalize cannabis. Enough of this charade.

I asked you before to give me more info about hemp but still didn't get answer

Wah marijuana that much in my place "ACEH" master ,,, @doitvoluntarily
Here the plant grows super fertile.
If if it had legalized it as drugs may we open lahat here, but if now I do not want to go to jail

Too many powerful figures in the medical industry, government, MNCs, etc. trying in vain to protect their cash cows. Hemp is just one victim of false propaganda..

What an amazing tree :) looks great

We completely agree with your outlook on hemp! Most of the stigma surrounding hemp is merely a lack of education about what hemp really is. There are very smart people that I've spoken to that just don't realize it's not a drug. It all starts with educating the public what this plant is used for.
