Yes, Steemit is an incredible system. I hope that you can find a place here and continue to enjoy it. Just a few tips to get you started:

Just writing text posts is fine, but if you add an image more people will view your post.

When you first choose to submit a story you will get to an editor that looks like the below

I have highlighted the editor and tags section.

If you click editor it will show some extra options for formatting like this.

In the tags section you should add a tag that represents the topic you're posting about. Since this is your first post; Perhaps in your second post you might want to introduce yourself to the community.
You can do that by Submitting a Story and writing a little about yourself and adding the tag #introduceyourself.
There is also a list of existing tags here. If you need a little inspiration or guidance there is an excellent post by @cryptoctopus Here

Finally if you don't already know markdown, it can help to use a guide when trying to format your posts This is a great one.
