The types of herbicide formulations available dictate to a very great extent the type of equipment to be used for application.
Most herbicides currently on market are so formulated to be diluted in liquid carriers.As such ,they are applied with sprayers .Though sprayers are in various forms,sizes and designs.essentially,they comprise the tank,pump and a nozzle or nozzles.other components are the hose,pressure regulator,filters or strainers,shut-off valve,lance,agitator,carrying straps or latches,pump actuating handle.all these ensure efficient herbicide application.
The tank:usually in various sizes and made of brass,stainless steel,aluminium or plastic materials.holds the spray solution.most tanks open at the top.
The filter or strainer: prevents foreign materials from blocking the nozzles.
The pump: generates the pressure necessary for forcing out the spray out of the sprayer.
The hose: provides a connection for the passage of the spray solution from the tank to the lance and the nozzle respectively.
The shut-off valve: moderates the liquid flow through the nozzle
The nozzle: most important parts of the sprayer .there are various types of nozzles namely ;the hydraulic energy nozzles,the regular flat- fan nozzle,flood nozzle,hollow cone nozzle,raindrop nozzle
