The Himalayan Monal is famous for its vibrant and iridescent plumage. Males are particularly striking, with a colorful mix of metallic green, copper, blue and purple hues on their bodies. Their long, iridescent tail feathers add to their overall elegance. Females, on the other hand, have a more subdued appearance, with grayish-brown plumage acting as skin.
These birds live mainly in high-elevation areas, usually found at 2,500 to 4,500 meters (8,200 to 14,800 ft) above sea level. They prefer forested areas with a mix of coniferous and broad leaf trees, as well as open areas with shrubs and grasses.
Himalayan Monals are omnivorous, eating a variety of items such as fruits, seeds, insects and vegetation. During the breeding season, males engage in elaborate courtship displays, which include spreading their wings, fanning their tail feathers, and making distinctive calls to attract females.
