A Story Behind Every Song Pt:1

Many artists have that one thing they hold on to that they’ve created. It may not mean much to the world but to that individual, it means a lot more. Back in high school I used to daydream on rapping with artists I listen to. Everyday I used to write and develop my own style to make me stand out with the rest. My long time friend whom is now my producer used to work on our craft on the daily basis. Rain sleet or snow he used to come to my house or I go to his and we just sit there and vibe out. We constantly talked about what we wanna become and what we want to accomplish later in life. With hard work and dedication came the things we wanted all along. Respect from other artists above us and people who just simply liked what we create from time to time. This song marks what we’ve worked for and strives to get. When I met Vic Spencer, I was working at a internet radio station out in Bronzeville, Chicago. Working there I’ve met many artists from all walks of life but their music wasn’t quite up there to my own taste. Then came Vic. He came cool and calm like every other emcee who walked those halls. I downloaded some songs to cue up for the show (I was a board operator) and just waited to play em. Then I played them. I first hear “Sony Walkman” off his “The Cost of Victory Album”. I was like “damn that shit was dope!”. It was rare to hear that soulful pure Hip-Hop at that station. Many other artists that came through that station of course went with the trend and never reached outside of the local scene. But this guy wasn’t the average at all. Not only his music was dope. It’s not that often that artist that come in with a Rolling Stone magazine article under their belt. Not only that caught my attention even more, it was the fact that he was rolling with the late great Sean Price! After the show I had to get in touch with the man. I played some beats from my STFU EP and he freestyled over them. It was dope little session, we exchanged Instagram info and parted ways. Later that day I bought his album and played it on the way home. I thought to myself “I gotta make track with this man soon!”

In high school I used to listen to Cannibal Ox heavy. That album “The Cold Vein” really changed my ways of listening to Hip-Hop forever. (Check my previous post on my album review!). It was one of my goals in life to collaborate with one or if possible both of the artists in the duo. So with hard work and much brainstorming over the years I was finally able to get the chance to get a verse from one of the legends himself! Vast Aire gave me props on one of my music videos and showed mad respect! In the process, I finally was able to get Vic Spencer to hop on a track after setbacks on my end. He came over my house telling me stories on how he came about working with Sean Price, meeting his family and making songs with him. This whole time me and my producer just sat there like kids at campfire listening to his stories LoL. After about an hour and a half of talking, Vic wrote and laid his verse in like 15-20 minutes! I wrote mine and recorded it too but I wasn’t satisfied with it. The next day I kept listening to my part over and over again until I decided I was gonna rewrite it. Ain’t no way I was gonna let these guys body me on my own track lol! Hip-Hop is competitive in nature, so hell yea I’m gonna go in! So I finally did. I felt proud of it. Every song I make has a nice little back story to it and I hope to share more as I proceed in life. I hope you enjoy the song! Till next time steemit!
