Nelly dropped his debut album Country Grammar June 27, 2000

I remember the hot summer of 2000 and this song blazing on MTV! The story was that Nelly just asked random friends to show up and show love for St. Lou and the word of mouth spread like wild fire and over 100 people showed up to be in the hit single Country Grammar. This was well before facebook, ig, snap, twitter whatever AOL and AIM was probably the only form of social media. I also remember buying a bootleg copy in NYC and tweaked when I heard the edited version HOT STUFFF....

ITS HOT SHIT!

Nelly was in a crew of rappers and an AR executive told them that NELLY was the only one he would sign. I think the rap crew had like 10 rappers and were all from the ST. Louis area. Instead of getting bitter the crew backed Nelly and gave him all their best punch lines and songs because they loved ST. Louis so much and no one from the area had really made it big in the charts or nationally with hip hop culture. Nelly and St. Lunatics did that and this breakout hit could not be stopped nationally. It catapulted to the top of the charts and everyone was loving the new sound from the Midwest! Nelly didn't wait long to put the St Lunatics on and in the hit that made me really enjoy his album as a whole was Ride With Me

It should be believe instead of beleive.
