This weekend is the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. This was the largest military operation undertaken by underground resistance forces during the Second World War. When it broke out on August 1, 1944.

Witold Pilecki was one of the great unsung heroes of World War II whose legacy was buried by Soviet Russia. He volunteered for a Polish resistance operation that involved being imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp under a false identity to gather intelligence and fought in the Warsaw Uprising.
