Comparative tests of both weapons were carried out by TsNIITochMash (Central Scientific Institute for the Construction of Precision Machines) in order to calibrate whether the characteristics of the revered Russian correspond to the requirements of the Ministry of Defense.
According to the head of the Institute's small arms and equipment department, Vladimir Lepin in an interview with the Russian radio station Echo of Moscow, "according to the results of the tests, we can affirm that our rifle with our cartridges surpasses the American M16 rifle." .
The tests were carried out "in combined conditions", indicated the specialist. In particular, the operation of the weapons was subjected to intense tests for five days, during which they were not cleaned or lubricated, including drops of 1.2 meters. According to Lepin, the American rifle could not pass some of these tests, in particular those of "dust and sand", presenting "irreparable interruptions". The M16 also failed the water immersion test.
