ACEH IDIOMS & EXPRESSIONS (40) Attitude of Wisdom to Something New (Sikap Bijak terhadap Sesuatu yang Baru)

Prof. Dr. Teuku Jacob mantan Rektor Universitas Gajah Mada, pernah menggunakan ungkapan bahasa Aceh “Jika sesuatu manis jangan terlalu cepat untuk ditelan, dan Jika sesuatu pahit, jangan juga terlalu cepat untuk dimuntahkan”.

Jadi, dalam perjalanan kehidupan sehari-hari, kita kerab menemukan suatu hal baru, baik itu berupa teori, konsep atau pun dalil-dalil, maka jangan terlalu cepat untuk mengambil kesimpulan, apakah itu untuk kita praktikkan atau pun kita menolak teori, konsep atau dalil-dalil tentang kehidupan.

Prof. Dr. Teuku Jacob, former Rector of Gadjah Mada University, once used the Acehnese expression "If something sweet is not too quick to swallow, and if something is bitter, do not be too quick to vomit".

So, in the course of this life, we often find a new thing, whether it be a theory, a concept or a postulate, so do not be too quick to draw conclusions, whether it is for us to practice or we reject theories, concepts or propositions- the proposition of life.

Bagaimana sikap kita seharusnya!

Sikap bijaknya adalah, kedua-duanya haruslah kita terima dengan penuh pertimbangan, kecuali itu berkaitan dengan berita shadiq (al-Qur’an dan al-Hadis) karena berita shadiq kebenarannya sudah amat teruji kebenarannya.

Saya lebih suka melogiskan ungkapan tersebut dengan contoh makanan. Jadi, saat kita menemukan atau direkomendasikan suatu makanan, dan makanan itu manis saat dicicipi, maka jangan terlalu cepat untuk kita telan (makan). Begitu juga sebaliknya ketika makanan itu pahit, jangan terlau cepat untuk dimuntahkan. Baiknya, kita mengkonfirmasi (pertimbangan) dengan lambung kita, apakah makanan tersebut baik untuk lambung dan kesehatan kita. Jika baik, maka makanlah seala kadarnya juga.

Dalam konteks seperti ini, masyarakat Aceh telah lama menggunakan pandangan hidup untuk tidak terburu-buru dalam menerima atau menolak sesuatu baik itu tentang teori, konsep atau dalil-dali yang berbicara tentang kehidupan dan sebagainya. Mereka lebih memilih untuk bersikap bijak.

How our attitude should be!

The wise attitude is that both of us must accept with full consideration, except that it is related to the news of shadiq (al-Qur'an and al-Hadith) because the news of the truth is very truthful.

I like to use the logic of the expression with a sample of food. So, when we find or recommend a food, and the food is sweet when tasted, then do not be too fast for us to eat. Likewise when it's bitter, do terlau quick to spit out. Well, we confirm (consideration) with our stomach, whether the food is good for the stomach and our health. If it is good, then eat seala measure as well.

In this context, the people of Aceh have long used the worldview to not quickly about accept or reject something good, there are about theories, concepts or postulates that speak about life and so on. They prefer to be wise (wisdom).
