Xia Dynasty (c. 2070 BC - c. 1600 BC)
The first dynasty recorded in Chinese history books. According to historical records, the Xia Dynasty was the first state in Chinese history when Yu's son, Qi, abolished the traditional tribal "Zen" system, killed Yi and became king. The Xia dynasty was the first nation in Chinese history to be established after Yu's son killed Yi and became king. The Xia dynasty had 13 generations and 16 kings. The central area of the Xia Dynasty was in the western part of today's Henan Province and the southern part of Shanxi Province. It is said that after the death of Kai, Taikang took the throne and there was a temporary change of power, which is called "loss of state". The Xia Dynasty was reestablished by the reign of Shaokang. By the time Kongjia ruled, the Xia Dynasty was in decline. After that, the Xia dynasty fell after three successions to Jie. About 400 years later, it was destroyed by the Shang Dynasty.
Since the Xia dynasty was not directly handed down in writing, it has long been understood mainly by ancient documents, including the kings, officials, armies, and penal conditions of the Xia dynasty. In modern times, the excavation of large palaces, tombs and many bronze artifacts from the site of Erlitou Village in Yan Shi County, Henan Province, has revealed the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of the Xia Dynasty as a slave system.
The establishment of the Xia Dynasty marked China's entry into slave society, and the Xia Dynasty became the first class dynasty in China.
