The photo above shows a group of coolies on a plantation in Deli in the 1900s. From the photo it can be seen that the coolies worked on the plantations in Deli consisted of various races and age groups.
From the photo above, it seems there was a Chinese coolie, Javanese coolie, and also a Bataknese coolie with various age groups, from young to old.
These plantations were usually so large and employ so many people that they form a community of their own, even having their own means of payment.
