The thing I call an antediluvian comms system was originally serving severral purposes:

1. Ordinary communication on Earth, iincluding at distances.
2. Communication with other creatures. Granted you'd never get anywhere trying to teach a snake or a donkey to speak English or German; in a telepathic age, why not...Plato's dialog "Statesman" goes into more detail on that question than the Bible does but notice that the story of Eve and the snake in Genesis is presented without explanation, as if everybody knows that women can talk to snakes...
3. Communication with other worlds... That is an assumption on my own part but I note that Rupert Sheldrake believes that telepathy propagates instantaneously as does gravity. That might be the solution to the Fermi Paradox,, i.e. that nobody should need to travel to distant places for information.
4. Communication with spirits. Notice that in Genesis prior to the flood and the collapse of the tower of Babel, God speaks to humans directly without anything exotic being required..

But the telepathic age collapsed in stages. The direct use of telepathy for language collapsed with the tower and men had to devise spoken languages. But people went on for a number of centuries using exotic practices to communicate with the spirit realm. That included the Greek oracles, prophecy, and electrostatic devices.

Exodus contains a set of instructions for Building A Primitive capacitor which Israelites called the Ark of the Covenant and which Benjamin Franklin and other early researchers experimenting with electricity would have called a Leyden bottle.

Those instructions run from Exodus 25:10 to Exodus 25:21, and then:

EXO 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

,Which translated into modern language, means that you are going to see an electrical Arc between the two contact points of the capacitor and you will hear my voice when that happens.

Numbers 7:89 describes the process in detail:

Numbers 7:89 When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law. In this way the Lord spoke to him.

Alfred Degracia, an associate of Immanuel velikovsky's, noted that the pyramids and the Ark of the Covenant were serving the selfsame purpose. that is, they were serving as Communications devices for the purpose of communication with the spirit world.

That would involve the original gold-plated tips of the pyramids. All of that was he original reason for the value of gold..
