The King of France at that time, Francis I, released a declaration requiring all official documents to be written in French. Away from Latin. Amazing how the most populous languages in the world have evolved. English is at the top now. Next, Mandarin?

IV. Finally for today - observatories and museums.
August 10 in 1675 and 1846 signalled the entry of two world-renowned institutions the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London and the Smithsonian Institution respectively.
