Hi all,
Back in September while on a business trip I had a chance to travel down to Sharpsburg Maryland to see the Antietam Battlefield. It was a very interesting experience but also quite eery when I took a chance to contemplate how many people were killed at the location.
The Irish Brigade fighting for The Union Forces under Thomas Francis Meagher (creator of the Irish tricolor) had a major victory at Antietam that day September 17, 1862 but despite their victory the regiments suffered approximately 50% casualties.
The Irish who fought in the American Civil War were some of the finest and bravest that has ever been seen. It makes me proud to see that their loyalty and sacrifice has not been forgotten.
