The earthquake destroyed the city of Lisbon, Portugal (1 November 1755)

When the citizens of Lisbon were celebrating the All Saint's Day suddenly the ground trembled and the earthquake occurred for 3 - 5 minutes it created a large 5-meter wide fracture, all citizens were panicked running towards the dock to save themselves. It turned out that the disaster still continued, 40 minutes after the earthquake came tsunami waves that hit the harbor and goes into the city via the Tagus River. All buildings in the city are destroyed and burned including some important buildings like the Lisbon Cathedral. The 9 SR earthquake feels until Finland, North Africa and the Caribbean.

This disaster took the lives of 10,000 to 100,000 people, making it one of the greatest natural disasters in history, as a result of this earthquake the economy of the Kingdom of Portugal had experienced a crisis.
