The Maunsell Sea Forts, England.

Fort Roughs or the "Rough Towers" was "the first of originally four naval forts designed by G. Maunsell to protect the Thames Estuary." The forts were decommissioned in the late 1950s and later used for other activities including pirate radio broadcasting.

Pripyat, Ukraine

Pripyat is a ghost town in northen Ukraine that was evacuated during the  Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster.

 I.M. Cooling Tower, Old Power Station, Belgium

It was originally built in 1921. When it was finished, it was one of the largest coal burning power plants in Belgium.  Following years of service, a report found that Power Plant IM was responsible for 10 percent of the total carbon dioxide emissions in Belgium. Due to this, protests from Greenpeace in 2006 gave the power plant a lot of negative attention and it closed in 2007. 

A Sunken Yacht,  Antarctica

A Brazilian journalist  João Lara Mesquita struck the ice while out filming a documentary with four other researchers. As the ship sank, the boat crew was luckily rescued by Chilean Navy. The sunken ship stayed underwater for the next few months.

Abandoned Domino Sugar Factory, USA

The current complex dates back to 1882, when it was the largest sugar refinery in the world. It stopped operating in 2004.

An Abandoned Mill, Sorrento, Valle dei Mulini in Sorrento, Italy.

These haunting buildings emerging from the undergrowth date back to the 13th century.  Due to the difficult-to-access location and new sources of energy, these mills were abandoned.

Wreck of the SS America,Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

SS America was an ocean liner built in 1940 for the United States Lines and was designed by the noted American naval architect William Francis Gibbs. It was wrecked at Playa de Garcey on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands on 18 January 1994.
