It is just simply baffling how young America is - and for that matter, modern civilization in general.
In case you were unaware, the Americas were first publicly discovered in 1492, by Christopher Columbus, (by accident, lol). This caused him tell the Spanish people of his success of finding a new continent (which he stupidly enough thought to be Asia at first). Soon, during the 16th century, a few more Spanish people started sailing across the Atlantic towards the Caribbean, Middle America, and South America.
Flash-forward 100 more years to 1607, the first European colony was founded at Jamestown, Virginia, by the English. For the next 150+ years both patterns would continue, with the Spanish (and Portuguese, among others) predominately settling the southern Americas, and the English (hailing from Great Britain) settling the North.
And, unlike the history books and political-based media today, I will not forget to mention the Native people. While these major, new continents were being flocked to by the outside world, the populations of people who had called these lands home for thousands of years were being killed by disease, and of course, the racist settlers. (The most famous of these instances being the invasions of the Incas and the Aztecs.)
Of course by this time, both countries had enough people to have a functional independent society.. Which is exactly what neither had. For the British colonies, this caused the Revolutionary War (of 1776), while for New Spain, it caused the War of Independence (of 1810-1821). In both cases, the colonists ultimately won, forming what are mostly now their current countries, states, and constitutions.
And since the creation of the country that I currently reside in, the U.S.A, 241 years have gone by that have brought about an incredibly rapidly pacing development of great ideas and tools.
But that's only the beginning of the turning of the wheel, a fraction of what is yet to come. With the advancement of technology, "the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes", like Computers, the internet, and even Steem of course, the possibilities are growing daily.
