I am@kombatnatuka from Ghana and there are three main religions in Ghana. The Christians are the majority followed by the Muslims and the least is the traditionalist. Today I will be discuss about the traditional religions festivals we celebrate in Ghana. The main religion in Ghana before the introduction of Christianity and Islam was the traditional religion.
Today I want to to tell you about the Aboakyri (Deer Hunt) festival festival in Ghana. It is celebrated by the people of Winneba of the central region of Ghana. The festival is a celebration to mark the migration of these people from the ancient Western Sudan Empire where they were led by 2 brothers and their god called Otu.

When the consulted their god about it, they were told by their traditional priest who was the mediator between the god and the people to sacrifice a young member of the Royal family every year to their god.
They could was not so they made an appeal to their god who told them to bring animal from the wild cat family to be caught alive and beheaded before the god.

They settled at a place called “Penkye” hence the god became Penkyi Otu. When the people went out to hunt down the wild cat many of the people died before capturing it alive. They were force to to go back and appeal to their god again this time “Penkyi Otu” their god decided to accept a mature bush buck this looks like a deer. After sacrificing the deer the people celebrate with food and games.
On these days not all can participate usually group are made by the young men to search for a deer on the day of the festival. the rest wait till the dear is cought and killed and the we celebrate.
