What is Fiber Optics?

Fiber optics is the technology which used to transmit light source through fibers. This technology found in 1960 by Charles Kuen Kao. The basic principle of fiber optics is converted to optical signal and sent through the optical fibers. These data travels at speed of light. This transmission system offered us wide bandwidth, light weight and no any interference from electromagnetic influence.

Cable often consist of outer jacket, strength member, coating, cladding and the core. These layers provide us only the strength to the fiber not the optical properties. Sometimes in fiber optics bundles, the manufacturer use light-absorbing material in between fibers to prevent from the light-leaks..

Fiber cables are very flexible but the critical radius is 30mm, because due to some reasons if it happens then optical losses will increase.

Fiber modes

Fiber modes we can divided into two parts such as Single mode (mono mode) and Multi mode ... Mono mode fibers core diameter is nearly 10 times less than propagating light wavelength.. So that it can produce only a single light single at times.

More than 10 micrometers diameter fibers are called as Multi mode fibers. It can carry several light rays at one time but they never interfere each other.

There are only few disadvantages in Fiber objects. The major disadvantage is called as Attenuation. Simply we can explain this phenomena as transmission loss; it means transmission reduction of the intensity of light beam. It may due to the scattering or absorption. Anyhow this is a importan technology.
