How are you guys,
Today is vesak poya day. Vesak Poya is a major religious festival in Sri Lanka. It is celebrated on the full moon day of May on veska Poya day.
Celebrated by Buddhists, this Vesak Poya day is one of the most glorious days of the year. On this day, Buddhists observe religious ceremonies in remembrance of the Supreme Buddha. Buddhism has spread from India and is celebrated in many different ways around the world by many foreign cultures. Buddhists traditionally consider this day to be the birthday of the Supreme Buddha.
Large scale festivals are organized in Sri Lanka during this period. However, this year's activities will not be able to take place due to the covid epidemic. The things we organize during the Vesak Poya season are seela movements, bodhi poojas, dansals, and devotional song concerts.
Temples are full of Buddhists from all over the island to celebrate this great Vesak festival. Flower lamps are offered in worship of the statues of the Supreme Buddha. During this festive season, the Buddhist flag is hoisted in every Buddhist house. Most Buddhists eat vegetarian food during the week of Vesak Poya.
Two days have been set aside to celebrate the Vesak Poya in Sri Lanka. Buddhists decorate their homes and public places. Lamps are made and hung. Lanterns known as Vesak lanterns are lit in many houses in Sri Lanka on the full moon day of Vesak. In ancient times, clay lamps made of clay were used for lighting. People also donate lanterns to lantern competitions organized by various organizations. Gifts are also given to the creator of the most beautiful nest. Thus the Buddhists celebrate the Vesak festival in a grand manner.
May be we missed going dansal and temple due to lockdown but we were able to celebrate Vesak to the fullest with our families.
