World of Warcraft will add tools for players with disabilities to play
World of Warcraft (WoW) Executive Producer John Hight said his upcoming Shadowlands expansion will incorporate controller support to expand entry options for players with disabilities.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Hight said that the goal is not to "make WoW like a console game but to make input devices more accessible for players with disabilities.
"We think what will happen is that as these devices come out, we expect to see even more innovative devices so that everyone can participate, not only in WoW but in the online community in general," he said.
Among the devices being studied from Blizzard is the Xbox Adaptive Controller, as mentioned in April by the WoW Kaivax community manager.
"We always want to make WoW more accessible," Kaivax said. "In Shadowlands we're trying to add some support for keyboard shortcuts, camera and turning a character into controllers like the Xbox Adaptive Controller," he added.
Asked if the game will be available on consoles at some point, Hight said, "There's a part of me that would love to be able to play WoW from my couch and relax," but stressed that if we ever "did something like that, I'd want to see something good.
At the opening ceremony of its annual Blizzcon event last November, Blizzard Entertainment showed cinematic footage of the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, which is coming this year.
