Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will include cloud play starting in September at no additional cost
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has posted a blog announcing that, by September 2020, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will include access to the game in the cloud at no additional cost. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to play more than 100 Xbox Game Pass titles on their mobile devices from the cloud as part of their membership. Launching the cloud game as part of the existing Xbox ecosystem between devices was the next natural step, complementing the work done with the next-generation Xbox Series X console and Windows PC gameplay.
The blog post also details a set of Xbox commitments to gamers in this transition to the next generation. With the next hardware evolution later this year, the emergence of new ways to play such as cloud gaming and subscription services, and more opportunities for players to play together on different platforms, the next generation of video games will be significantly different from any of the previous ones.
In this new landscape, Xbox is committed to policies such as ...
- Gamers will always be welcome: a commitment backed by community support, allowing creators to bring diverse content to our platform based on their experiences, and the acceleration of new technologies to reduce hate speech and toxicity.
- Players will not be forced to make the leap to the next generation. Xbox Game Studios titles released over the next few years will be played optimally on Xbox Series X and Xbox One, and Xbox will continue to support cross-gaming so that gamers and their friends can play together regardless of platform or generation.
- With Xbox Smart Delivery technology, players will be able to purchase compatible titles once and play them on the consoles of both generations at no cost. Highly anticipated games such as Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077 will support Smart Delivery.
- Gamers can play Xbox Game Studios titles on their launch day with Xbox Game Pass.
