Just a couple of months ago, 2K gave us small advances of the Mafia Trilogy, the announcement of the return of the Mafia saga with a complete remake of the first installment and remasters of Mafia II and Mafia III under the name of Mafia: Definitive Edition.

I've already finished Mafia 2: Definitive Edition, the remastering of one of the most special games in the series, as great in its narrative as in the gameplay, at least for me, it has aged quite well if we see it more as an action game that open world, set apart by it does not stand out much.

As it is a remastering I am going to focus on how the game looks and feels today.

The first thing to make clear is that Mafia II: Definitive Edition is just a remastering, so do not expect a big leap at a technical level unlike Mafia: Definitive Edition which, due to its age, has been dedicated a remake in all the sense of the word.

In this case, we find graphic improvements especially in the smoothing of textures, color corrections and a renovation to the lighting so that it has a more attractive visual appearance. It is noted that Hangar 13 and D3T carried out a facelift for Mafia 2 and that it has adapted to modern formats, being an option to take into account for those who have not been able to enjoy the title in their time or for those who want to return to have it in this generation.

There are a few other bugs that are still present from the original version, but they are not too many to ruin the experience and most of those bugs are in the textures of the clothing that sometimes does some strange things like piercing the body of the characters.

Mafia II: Definitive Edition serves as a reminder of the contents of Mafia II, being present both the original game and the three DLC that came out later: Jimmy’s Vendetta, The Betrayal of Jimmy and Joe’s Adventures. All of them are quite interesting, and the last one, especially, that works as a complement to the original campaign.

Adding the campaign and the additional content, we will have 25 or 30 hours of fun in which we can enjoy a video game story about mafia cinema, a great tribute to classics in which we will experience the adventures of Vito Scaletta and his rise as a mafia In the streets of Empire Bay, this game has a great campaign in the narrative that will be enjoyed by all those who love the genre.

As for shooting mechanics, Mafia 2 has aged quite well, they continue to be basic but very effective, with a simple cover system to protect us from enemy fire and good precision when executing movements, leaving us with good moments of action during the game.

Driving is simple but effective and we will have to adapt to the cars of the time, to sudden reactions if we make sudden turns, accelerations or very sudden braking. Of course, Mafia II is not as a complete sandbox compared to Rockstar games or open world games that we see today. The secondary activities that we have at our disposal are not very satisfactory that we say and it is better to see this game, as one of action that has a good narrative that is capable of immersing ourselves in a mafia movie in which we will have the opportunity to star in the scenes. shooting and driving.

Mafia II is a title that I really liked at the time and I still find it an excellent game that allows us to star in a gangster movie. Without a doubt, this is a good opportunity to play this title in the current generation.
